| District Court Judges on Fire |
| The Judges of the District Court (commercial and construction lists) are setting cases down for trial at the earliest opportunity. It seems that they are acting under a direction to do so, possibly in order to clear a backlog of impending cases, or merely to improve the throughput rates of the Court. We have observed proceedings on a number of occasions at Court where the Judge has set a case for trial, despite protest from one or both sides that the case is not yet ready. Such grounds are outstanding matters of evidence such as obtaining documents, or taking witness statements. The Judges have commonly replied that these matters can be attended to in the interim period. |
