Misleading Internet Advertising

The ACCC has written to the Trading Post following a complaint by Stickybeek Australia Pty Limited that the Trading Post had sponsored a link to Stickybeek's name from Google (an internet search engine).

Stickybeek operates a classified advertising business used by businesses in the NSW Hunter Valley region. Trading Post operates a national classified advertising business.

Trading Post sponsored the Google link to Stickybeek so that when users typed a Google search for "Stickybeek", the search results would display a link to the Trading Post Autotrader website.

The ACCC thought that this might lead consumers to mistakenly believe that the Trading Post Autotrader website was affiliated with the Stickybeek business.
