Industrial Relations Reforms are looming |
It is anticipated the government will table its proposed IR reforms next month. In a move to de-rail the proposal and put the reform debate in the public arena, Labor and the Unions had challenged the legality of the government IR reform advertisements. |
Justice Dyson Heydon would not order injunctive relief to curtail the advertisements but referred the case for hearing before the full bench of the High Court on the basis the advertisement expenditure had not been approved by Parliament. The case is due to be addressed in October around the same time the government reforms are to be released. With the States threatening to mount jurisdictional challenges to the proposed IR changes, protests, and opinion polls showing a lack of public support, the coming months should signal interesting times for the government's plans. |
